Praise Soar Ministry

Special Needs Ministry for Children

Mission Statement and Goals

Mission Statement

  • Soar’s purpose is to break down barriers that keep children with special needs, age 3 through 6th grade, and their families from being able to participate in the community of the church.

Soar’s Goals

  • To show families of children with special needs that we believe that each child is a unique creation of God.

  • To reach out to the community and provide a safe and loving environment where children with special needs can worship God and learn about Jesus.

  • To nurture each child’s individual skills and abilities while learning about the Christian faith.

  • To provide an opportunity for children with special needs to learn about God’s love in a way that is accessible to them.

Parent Information

  • Who is the Special Needs Ministry program intended for?

  • Any child, age 3 through 6th grade (other ages on a case by case basis), with developmental or medical disabilities is appropriate for this program.   The Soar Ministry is primarily provided so that parents/guardians may attend service and feel their children are being well cared for.  Additionally, Praise Assembly of God believes that all children belong to God and have a purpose.

What do we provide?

  • If your child’s disability is such that he/she is unable to benefit from participating in a traditional Sunday school classroom, he/she may spend the service time in the SOAR classroom.  The SOAR classroom will provide:

    • Sensory and special learning components

    • Each child with the opportunity to participate at their ability level

    • Modified lessons comparable to those taught in the traditional classroom.

If your child’s disability is such that he or she can be integrated, he/she may be paired with an aide or “buddy” and attend an age-appropriate class during either the 9:15 am or the 10:45 am service.

What do we not provide?

  • Therapy

  • Behavioral modification programs (but will follow through with programs in place as able based on parental guidance and tools provided to us.

  • Medical intervention (only in emergency situations.)

What are some examples of diagnoses, which may be appropriate for this ministry?

  •             Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Developmental Delay, ADD/ADHD, Muscular Dystrophy, and Down’s syndrome are just a few examples.

How do I enroll my child in Special Needs Ministry?

  • The first step is to contact Rebecca Landon, Director of Special Needs Ministries, at

  • You may also fill out an intake/registration form below by clicking on Intake/Registraion Form.  She is voluntarily coordinating this program.  She will set up an initial meeting and interview time for you, so that you may be able to express your child’s needs and the placement for your child.

  • It is very important that you contact her before your first planned Sunday in the SOAR program, so that she can make arrangements and be able to provide your child with the support that he/she needs.
